The Butterfly Effect
From Redundancy on Maternity Leave to Online Business Owner and Top Travel Booker
If you’d told me three years ago, when I was pregnant with twins and juggling a toddler, that I’d be running my own online travel business, leading a team of 200 people, and building it all alongside my two best friends… I would have laughed. But life has a funny way of surprising us when we open our minds to new possibilities.
The Redundancy That Changed Everything
When I went on maternity leave with my twins, I had a two-year-old at home already. It was a chaotic, wonderful time - but also overwhelming. While on leave, I was made redundant from my position in tech. After a lot of conversation with my husband, we decided I would take a pause on my career to focus on family life.
Those early days with three little ones were full, busy, and hard - but I truly loved being at home with them.
The Itch to Work Again
After about a year, I started to feel the itch. I missed so much about my old job: the team interactions, the sense of accomplishment, the confidence that comes with building something successful. I missed using my brain. And if I’m honest, I missed adult conversation.
I searched high and low for opportunities that could fit into my new life as a mum, but nothing seemed to tick all the boxes.
And then, purely by chance, I stumbled across this opportunity.
A New Beginning
Fast forward nine months, and I had successfully booked £200,000 worth of travel for family and friends. It combined everything I loved - my passion for travel, my organisational skills, and that buzz of achievement I’d been craving.
The best part? It was flexible. I could work during nap times, evenings, or whenever it suited me. I could do as little or as much as I wanted - I was in control. I even took four weeks off over summer to enjoy the school holidays, and the same at most half-terms and Christmas. For the first time, I had a business that fit around my life, instead of the other way around.
Discovering the Referral Side
A little while later, I was introduced to the referral side of the business. I already loved the product, and I knew so many people who would too. Helping others get started came naturally, and before long, I was leading a team of 200 people.
With my background in learning and development, mentoring others has been the most rewarding part. Watching them build their own success while I guide and cheer them on is something I never imagined I’d get to do outside of a corporate setting.
And I truly care deeply about helping everyone get the best out of this opportunity. We’re not in the business of introducing people and leaving them to figure it out themselves - or even worse joining purely to boost numbers and not actually ever seeing any benefit. We want every single person to experience the full potential of this business - whether that’s travelling better, earning extra income from booking trips for friends, or building a passive income stream that creates a legacy for their families.
Our “little old team” is one of the most successful teams when it comes to travel booked - we regularly occupy the top third of the leaderboard in a network of over 6,000 people. And we’ve done that with just 200 passionate, hardworking members.
Building Something With My Best Friends
And here’s the part that still blows my mind: I’ve done all of this alongside my two best friends. Together, we’ve built something bigger than any of us imagined.
If you’d told me two years ago that this is where I’d be today, I wouldn’t have believed you. But it turns out, when you’re willing to take a chance, the butterfly effect can change everything.
